Imagine only having second-hand shoes. Imagine worn heels, cratered soles and exposed toes.
Now imagine being handed a new pair of tennis shoes.
Forty-five Renton elementary students had this experience early in December thanks to Shoes That Fit, a non-profit organization. With the goal of helping students attend school with comfort and dignity, Shoes That Fit provided $1350 worth of New Balance tennis shoes to Renton children in need through Communities In Schools of Renton’s Family Liaisons.
The students were delighted to receive this gift. As one girl excitedly asked “wait, these are ‘new‘ shoes? No one has worn them before?” Another family with four children each received a pair of new shoes. Their beaming feet say it all (see side photo).
