The Communities in Schools Renton (CISR) Step Up Mentoring Program provides a small group mentoring experience at multiple sites for 5th grade students in the Renton School District with the goal of forming positive relationships at school that will increase success in the transition to middle school. The Step Up Coordinator will provide opportunities for the students to bond with their fellow classmates and build positive peer relationships, self-confidence, and learning skills. The Coordinator will also work with students to increase attendance, improve academics, and improve behavior. The member will coordinate with community partners and volunteers to marshal resources necessary to address the social and emotional needs of students who are at risk of dropping out of school.
This position is responsible for the overall planning and implementation of the Communities In Schools model of integrated student supports, in strong collaboration and partnership with school staff at Thorndyke Elementary in the Tukwila School District. This school based position identifies and coordinates community resources and partnerships to address the identified needs of students at risk of dropping out through confidential, developmentally appropriate, culturally sensitive interventions, services and supports. CISR identifies and serves students exhibiting early warning indicators and risk factors that may lead to academic failure and/or dropout. This position will provide wrap around services to meet the needs of students and families and support the student’s academic success. This position is 40 hours a week, working a 200-day school year.
